Reboot U

Reboot is proud to unveil Reboot U, a series of introductory performance and audition classes aimed at attracting new people to the Seattle theatre talent pool and also helping people wanting to reboot themselves as artists. (Wanna try a monologue/song/scene “not written for you”? Let’s work on it together!) For ages 16+

Sign up for Working with Text, Song Selection, or Intro to Musical Theatre Dance individually ($25 each), or sign up for the series and gain the chance to participate in our audition panel ($75 for four)!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

10am-12pm September 9th – Class #1: Working with Text with Scot Charles Anderson
Working with Text is a workshop run by NY Director Scot Charles Anderson where students can bring prepared monologues or choose from cold readings. Learn the basics of breaking down a monologue into beats, character motivation, and specifying intention. Don’t know any monologues? That’s okay! We’ll have some print outs of text to work with as well.

Reboot Theatre Company’s mission is to test established works in nontraditional ways, so we’d also like to encourage venerable theatre makers to bring material that they might not normally think of auditioning with. Let’s work on it together!

10am-12pm September 16th – Class #2: Song Selection with Angela Snyder
Song Selection with Angela is an introductory class about choosing a song for a musical theatre audition. Learn how to choose appropriate material for your audition, cut a song according to requirement, and how to tell a story through song. Students should bring a song that they’d like to or already have auditioned with and prepare to work on it in class. Accompanist will be provided.

Been around the scene and want to try out a song that “isn’t your type”?  That works, too!

Learn basic dance vocabulary so you can walk into your next dance call with confidence. Students will be learning a simple dance combo and should wear clothes that don’t constrict their movement and either jazz shoes or shoes that are comfortable to leap, twirl, and chasse in! (Don’t know that last word? Better get to class!)

Panelists include NY director Scot Charles Anderson (local: ArtsWest, Showtunes, Seattle Musical Theatre), local genius music director Aimee Hong (Sound Theatre Company, Renton Civic, Bainbridge Performing Arts, SecondStory), Reboot Artistic Director Jasmine Joshua, and award-winning director Harry Turpin (Reboot, Seattle Musical Theatre).
